Brilliant Lighting forecasts retro revival in interiors and lighting for 2016

Brilliant Lighting forecasts retro revival in interiors and lighting for 2016 | Painters and Decorators | Scoop.it

Leading Australian LED lighting company Brilliant Lighting forecasts a revival of retro trends in interiors and lighting this year.

Brilliant Lighting Interior Product Manager and Trend Forecaster, Jacqueline Hughes says anyone can take part in the 2016 retro resurgence with retro chic easily achieved by mixing vibrant colour with the opulent tones of black, brass and darkened timber. Ms Hughes also forecasts blue to become a dominant colour this season, bringing a fresh twist on the recently popular teal seen across homewares.

Observing that this vibrancy hints at the pop art movement of the mid-century, Ms Hughes says the retro feel is also achievable by incorporating pared back classic shapes of the mid-century. She also suggested updating the look by selecting pieces in sophisticated materials and textures throughout the rest of the living space to calm the vivid colour.

Colour forecast: The paint trends we'll see in 2016 | Painters and Decorators | Scoop.it

Two of Australia’s leading paint companies, Haymes and Dulux, are now betting they’ve got an even longer than expected shelf life by featuring the deep shades on their 2016 colour trend predictions.

For Dulux, which markets the all-time best seller “Antique White USA” as the-safe-as-houses choice of the domestic DIY painting mob, a stormy, near black/grey called “Domino” is now among their 50 top sellers – with a bullet.

Haymes colour concept manager Wendy Rennie reckons the moody darks, “which have evolved from latte”, are keeping on keeping on because “they have become the new alternative neutral – there is not one colour they don’t work with.”
